Course Info

Shadowhawk's "base of operations" is the Canonteign Country Park on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park in Devon.

The woods above the park is privately owned and is bordered with a large area of woodland managed by the Forestry Commission. This gives every student a large relatively undisturbed area to learn to track in.

You will see lots of wildlife tracks here:- Red and Roe deer, fox, badger, rabbit, grey squirrel, hedgehog, wood mice, scarab beetles, wood ants, buzzards, goshawks, green woodpeckers and more. You can expect to see some of these for yourselves on all of our courses!

On all our courses there will be a high student : instructor ratio. At Shadowhawk we have adopted a mentoring scheme. This brings back to the school some of our most experienced Advanced and Intermediate students who want to hone their tracking skills. It helps us ensure that there is always someone friendly on-hand to help you learn and get the most out of your time with us.

All our courses are self catering (Individual 24 hour ration packs can be supplied at a small extra cost. Please let us know when you book your course if you require any/how many). We do however have a central fire under a large parachute canopy at "Buffalo Camp" that you may cook on, if you prefer not to use a camping stove. The kettle is always on, and we ensure a constant supply of hot water for tea and coffee, which we also provide.

You will need to bring a tent, hammock or basha to sleep in/inder - unless you're on the Scout Tracker course... But a list of suggested kit will be sent once you have enrolled on your chosen course.
